While you were on JET, did you have the opportunity to learn about and appreciate sake? Have you had the chance to try good sake since you’ve been back in the DC region? Do you miss the opportunity to share and reminisce about Japanese culture with your fellow JETs? Thanks to DC local and Friend of JET, Reiko Hirai, and her DC Sake co, we have the opportunity to learn more about the history and production techniques of Sake from Sake specialist Chizuko Niikawa, Founder of Sake Discoveries in NYC, Certified sake sommelier, and Sake Samurai who is certified as an expert by the Japan Sake Brewers Association. (https://www.sakediscoveries.com/about/)
Due to COVID-19, this will be a virtual event hosted through Zoom on Saturday, October 3rd at 7 pm. As a special treat, Chizuko Sensei will also guide us on a tasting of a sake that’s never previously been available in DC! Participants will be able to purchase sake tasting sets to sample during the presentation through the DC Sake Co. [Link will be provided to those who sign up].
Please note that we will set up a time for you to pick up the Sake in Washington, DC the before the event. Purchase of sake is NOT required to participate in this event. The event is supported by JETAA DC and is free to JET Alumni, though space is limited. Sign up here: https://forms.gle/gBdNyx4ftbAyvmrH9
