JETs and Friends Test Their Japan Knowledge at Virtual Pub Trivia

posted in: Events | 0

What year did the JET Program start? What piece of Japanese literature is considered the world’s oldest novel? Just how many kinds of Pokémon has Nintendo released?

JET alumni and friends got together on Friday, September 25 to answer these questions and more, putting their knowledge of Japan to the test for a rousing game of virtual pub trivia! The evening welcomed JETs and Japan aficionados from both the DC area and elsewhere around the United States for the opportunity to share conversation and laughs over a drink, while learning a range of interesting facts related to Japan in the process.

Attendees divided into three teams (randomly assigned), christening themselves Inaka, The Baba’s, and Fami Ma. Together, the members of each time tried their hand at three rounds of questions. Round 1 explored everyday life in Japan and JET trivia. Round 2 delved into Japanese pop culture. Finally, round 3 tested their knowledge of Japanese history, culture, and politics.

During the current coronavirus pandemic, when meeting in-person can be difficult and risky, many of JETAADC’s normal annual events have had to be reimagined. The JETAADC Virtual Pub Trivia Night allowed the JET community to meet new people, share their experiences in Japan, and increase their knowledge.
